Update on the market in the GCC countries. 

The overall market did not perform as well as expected for Ramadan, and this is due to the buying power that is weaker because of inflation and VAT.  However, in Saudi Arabia the market has pick up for Bananas and is doing well for the past few days. Apples performed well before Ramadan, and then price levels dropped for Royal Gala Apples.

The momentum is picking up with the packing of the Forelle and Vermont Beauty pears.

Market update

Price levels have dropped after Ramadan for Royal Gala Apples from all countries; however, stock is still moving. There is still a strong demand with high price levels in the GCC countries for Granny Smith Apples. Italy should be out of the market in the next 3-4 weeks. There is still Summer Pears available in the market and this is impacting the demand and sales of the first Forelle and Vermont Beauty Pears and at high price levels, as this will make arrival after Ramadan when the market is slow.

Middle East – Exported volumes on plums shipped from South Africa is down by 17% compared to the same period last season, however, there has been an increase of 15% on Nectarines shipped to the Middle East.

South Africa is at the tail-end of the stone fruit season, and there is about 2 weeks left for the packing of Angelino plums.

The market is flooded with Mangoes from Yemen.  This has resulted in the market not picking up for South African Mangoes as anticipated,  and the price is under pressure. Mangoes from India has started to make arrival and is also competing with Yemen in the market.

RSA apples start  

The first RSA apples have started selling prices below expectations. New Zealand Apple pricing is cheaper than SA with better quality as well. Chile have sent less Apples to India as their crop is later this season.

Ramadan sales in full swing  

Ramadan has officially started and the markets have reacted positively to it. South African Royal Gala Apples are the favourite and importers are getting good returns.
