Update on the market in the GCC countries.
The Middle East market is showing positive market trends for all South African Citrus and Soft Citrus with increased sales and market price levels. Due to the slump in the market on Bananas, most suppliers stopped ordering volumes from Ecuador and the Philippines, and this has had a positive impact with increased price levels and sales due to limited supply available. However , this will change as soon as volumes start to arrive in the market. The market is still supplied with Summer Fruits (Stone fruit) from Turkey and Jordan. Egyptian Mangoes are also available in the market.

Valencias are expected to be down by 20 – 40% in the Northern areas. The pack-outs have been better this season compared to last season; however colour development was a problem and green fruit, and this was sent for juicing due to the high price for juicing.
The Valencia estimate might be reduced even further. The season is expected to end in week 38/39 (Mid-end September) with smaller growers finishing in week 35/36 (beginning September).
Mandarins are at the tail-end of the season and expected to finish in the next 1-2 weeks up North and 2 weeks from the Western Cape.
From the Eastern Cape, the packing of Midknight’s is at the tail-end of the season with only drips and drabs that will come through next week.
Markets, especially in Europe, are very good and growers are pushing as much as possible to this market to try and make up for the lower volumes packed. Fruit is looking good and average pack outs are 90%+. Juice prices in SA are still very high which is also attractive for growers as there are no risks in sending to the juice factory.
There are also some very late Lemons available. Volume is low and sizing on the smaller size. This will totally be finished with the next 2 weeks. Juice prices on Lemons are also relatively attractive and it remains to be seen if these final volumes even make it into an export carton.
Market update
The market is performing well on all Citrus and Soft Citrus from South Africa. Valencias from Egypt is still available in the market with low volumes, and this has resulted in increased price levels for South African Valencias.
South Africa is at the tail-end of the season for Mandarins and there is a window of opportunity from Peru for Mandarins in later weeks.
