There is a further reduction in the Valencia projection to 48.4 million cartons from 49.4 million cartons, a reduction of 1 million cartons.  This total decrease is 6 million cartons from the original estimate. However, mandarins are expecting a slight increase of 400,000 cartons.

 In General  

The Spanish citrus season will start soon with their very early varieties of mandarins expected to start by the end of September, however it seems as though the harvest with be smaller this season.

Market update

Continued strong market in the GCC countries for South African oranges, lemons, and late mandarins due to the high demand with less availability. There is a decrease of 17% (Navels/Valecias) on orange volumes shipped from South Africa to the Middle East, compared to the same period last season.

South Africa is at the tail end of the Pear season with 2 weeks before the end of the season on winter Forelle/Vermont Beaut pears. France is expecting a good apple harvest this season with an increase of 8% after volumes have been down for the last 3 years, however the pear production is down this year, although the harvest is low in all European countries but mostly in Italy.   Poland is expecting a good crop this season and is expecting good colour due to favourable weather conditions. The sizing is good with fruit peaking on count 100-150.

Market update

The GCC countries remain strong with high price levels for Royal Gala from South Africa and Italy. Increase in price levels on South African pears for week 35, even though Spain and China are in the market with increased volumes.
