Update on the GCC countries

The Middle East market remains well supplied across most categories. In Saudi Arabia, a positive trend has emerged over the past few days, with South African and Spanish pears prices showing a noticeable increase. Meanwhile, strong demand from India for Polish apples continues to shape pricing and tighten availability in the region.

Citrus

Market update

Not much have changed in the citrus category. Lemons are still strong, Oranges are performing well while mandarin pricing is under a bit of pressure.

Pome fruit

In Saudi Arabia, the past 3 – 4 days have shown a clear upward and positive market trend, with prices strengthening for both South African and Spanish pears. These origins are now performing better after previously facing pressure from lower-priced Chinese pears.

Growing demand from India for Polish apples, both in volume and pricing, continues to heighten competition with the Middle East for the same supply and especially on small size apples.

Grape, Stone, Kiwi Fruit

Grapes

Not much change from last week. The market is currently supplied with grapes from Egypt, Lebanon, Italy, and Peru, with South African shipments already on the water.

Stone Fruit

Overall South African volumes exported to the Middle East is up on Stone fruit varieties of Nectarines, Peaches, and Plums.

Cherries

Cherries are widely available from South Africa and Chile, with limited volumes arriving from Argentina. Australian cherries have yet to enter the market.

Mangoes

Picking and packing of mangoes experienced delays this week due to rainfall in Malelane, resulting in shipping being pushed out be 1 week.

Egypt and Yemen continue to supply the market, although Egypt is now approaching the tail-end of its season. Kenya has starting making arrival with good quality.

Pomegranates

Peru is preparing to begin its first early harvest in December. Egypt is currently the main supplier to the Middle East.
