The market price levels remained stable for Royal Gala apples from Italy, Poland, Ukraine and Serbia, however there is still a high demand for apples due to less availability from Italy.

Downward trend in price levels for South African Valencias in the Middle East market.

There has been a significant downward trend in the price level and demand for South African Valencia due to the first arrival of Egyptian navels and Valencia (Baladi variety) in the Middle East market at low price levels.

Mangoes – South Africa

Due to the warmer weather, the fruit matured earlier than in other seasons and so picking was brought forward by one week for the Tommy Atkins variety.

Increase in demand and price levels in the Middle East market for Mangoes from Egypt and Kenya. Mangoes from South Africa should start making arrival in the market mid-December.

Increase in demand and price levels from India for Royal Gala apples from Poland.  The Middle East market will compete with India for Polish apples.

The market price levels remained stable from week 48-49 for royal gala apples. The Middle East market is supplied with royal gala apples from Italy, Poland, and Serbia. The Middle East will compete with India for Royal Gala apples from Poland at high prices.

Continued high demand for late CA season pears from South Africa, however the market price levels remained stable from week 48-49 with a slight drop in prices in Dubai market.

 Grapes

Exported volumes from South Africa to the Middle East indicate a decrease of 49% (all varieties) compared to the same period last season.

Higher volumes of Early sweet and Prime seedless varieties was packed in week 47 and week 48 and the packing of Prime seedless will continue in week 49.

The Orange River region in the Northern Cape will start packing Sugraone, Midnight Beauty and Evans Delight in week 49. These varieties are one week earlier compared to last season and colour development is good.

The packing of the Crimson and Arrafifteen varieties will start at the end of week 50.

Recent estimates show an increase of 20% in cherry exports compared to last season. There is a high demand from China for cherries to reach the market before the Chinese new year.

Chile are also wanting to develop new markets this season for cherries.
