In General
Overall, the market for imported fruit remains slow, although demand for apples has increased, particularly for the Royal Gala variety.
This is typically a quieter period of the season due to the school holidays, with many local residents traveling abroad, and reduced market demand continues to be driven by consumers shifting towards more competitively priced locally produced fruit from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt.
Ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea have created delays for cargo destined for Jeddah Port.

Citrus
Lemons
Lemon supplies continued to increase as additional Southern Hemisphere shipments arrived across Middle East markets. The higher availability maintained downward pressure on prices, and the overall lemon market remained under pressure. Lemon arrivals with quality issues are being sold at very low levels.
Oranges
Egyptian Valencia oranges remained the dominant origin. South African Navel oranges continued to strengthen their market presence, supported by generally good fruit quality.

Pome

South Africa is approaching the end of its Royal Gala apple season, with export volumes to the Middle East currently 30% lower than the same period last year. Pear exports are also significantly reduced, down 54% year-on-year. The limited availability of Royal Gala apples has supported a firm market and sustained good demand across the region. However, despite the tighter supply of pears, market performance has fallen short of initial expectations. Elevated costs throughout the supply chain continue to place upward pressure on prices and slowing overall market movement.
