In General
Overall, the market remains slow for most imported fruit, except for oranges, which continue to perform well due to limited availability. The slower market conditions are largely driven by consumers shifting towards lower-priced locally produced fruit from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt. Demand has also been impacted by the reduced number of local residents in the country during the school holiday period, as many are away on vacation.

Citrus
Lemons
Lemon supplies continued to increase as additional Southern Hemisphere shipments arrived across Middle East markets. The higher availability maintained downward pressure on prices, and the overall lemon market remained under pressure.
Oranges
Egyptian Valencia oranges remained the dominant origin. South African Navel oranges continued to strengthen their market presence, supported by generally good fruit quality.

Market Prices (Dubai, Kuwait and Jeddah)

Pome

South Africa is at the tail end of the Royal Gala apple season, with export volumes to the Middle East down 20% compared with the same period last season, while pear exports remain 47% lower year-on-year. The Middle East apple market is currently supplied by South Africa, Chile, and Brazil, with overall fruit availability remaining relatively limited. However, despite the reduced supply of both apples and pears, prices and market movement have not met initial expectations due to the high costs across the supply chain, which continue to weigh on demand and consumer purchasing.

India / Bangladesh

India
Slow sales
Sales of imported fruit seems to have slowed as the consumers in India come more under financial pressure due to higher cost of living caused by higher gas and oil prices. Apple and pears are still moving through the chain. Citrus from SA is still stuck in cold stores as importers try and clean up the last Chinese and Egyptian citrus.
Bangladesh
Under water
Bangladesh are slowly recovering from the floods that have occurred recently. This has resulted in a slow market on all fruit except apples which are still high in demand. Currently South Africa are the only supply of apples but China should start at the end of the month.
