In General
Overall, the market remains slow across most commodity categories due to current market conditions. Vessel delays and inconsistent quality are continuing to affect supply and trading activity. Hotel occupancy also remains low, contributing to weaker demand, while local consumers are increasingly prioritising essential items as the cost of most commodities continues to rise due to the ongoing war.
More clarity on market conditions is expected once schools reopen next week, and local residents return from their summer vacations.
There is a still a lot of local fruits and fresh dates in the market at competitive prices.

Oranges
Egyptian Valencia oranges remained available in the market, while South African Navel volumes increased further. The greater availability of South African fruit intensified competition, while demand remained relatively soft, resulting in continued pressure on the market.

Pome

Apples are currently stable, although availability of Royal Gala and Gala remains limited. The market is currently supplied with Royal Gala predominately from South Africa, with limited volume from Chile and Brazil. Serbia has started harvesting its new-season apple crop, followed by Italy towards the end of August/early September and Poland from mid-September.
There could be an opportunity for increased apple volumes into Dubai from alternative origins this season, particularly if restrictions on Iranian commodities continue to affect supply from Iran into Dubai.
Pear availability from South Africa continues to be limited. However, demand remains low due to the strong availability of summer fruits. Demand for pears is expected to improve in coming weeks.
