In General

The market remains relatively slow across most commodities, with Valencia and Navelate/Cambria oranges being the notable exceptions, currently experiencing good demand due to limited availability.

Market conditions, however, remain highly unpredictable, with elevated supply chain costs, vessel delays and ongoing container clearance issues caused by port congestion. Extended transit times are also contributing to a higher incidence of quality issues on arrival, placing additional pressure on importers and suppliers.

Lemons

Lemon availability continued to increase as further Southern Hemisphere volumes entered Middle Eastern markets. The higher level of supply, combined with subdued demand, continued to keep the market under pressure. Buyers remained cautious, with purchasing power remaining limited.

Oranges

Egyptian Valencia oranges remained available, while South African Navel volumes continued to increase. Rising South African availability maintained strong competition in the market. South African Valencia oranges are also available and continue to sell at average price levels.

Pome

Royal Gala apples initially performed well, but market prices have dropped slightly following the arrival of the first new-season Gala from Italy. Additional volumes from Serbia are also expected to enter the market shortly, increasing competition. South African and Brazilian Gala apples are therefore now competing directly with the new-season European crop.

South African pear availability remains limited, with volumes shipped to the Middle East currently 52% lower than during the same period last season.
