Most of the stone fruit commodities (particularly apricots) ended much earlier than predicted, as the unseasonal rains caused the fruit to burst. Stone fruit is a very delicate commodity that can be greatly impacted by extreme changes in weather.

Grape, Stone & Kiwi Fruit

Update on Stone fruit and a market update in the GCC countries

Stone fruit price trends are still positive as products are available from only a few importers.

A lot of the stone fruit doesn’t have the BRIX ratio for export, and the fruit needs about 10 warm days for the BRIX ratio to pick up.

Thus far, stone fruit sizes are bigger this season compared to last season. There are more size c18-20 Peaches, nectarines more size 20/23; and apricots more size large/medium.

Plum picking and packing have been somewhat delayed and the cold weather helped to increase sizing.

Update on Grapes

Demand in the Middle East for Grapes remains low, even though less fruit has been shipped. Increased logistical rates are further inhibiting sales due to these increased costs affecting the final price. In addition to this, Indian white grapes are making an arrival in the market already at far more competitive price levels than those of South African origin.

Bangladesh

Chinese mandarin prices have shown some improvement.

Fresh produce supply from China to Bangladesh will be negligible from mid-December until the first week of January due to reefer equipment shortages.

Orange volumes in port are slowly decreasing, sales have picked up, however price levels are not showing much change with continued challenges due to poor quality arrivals.
