Shipping lines have a shortage of equipment resulting in a backlog at Cape Town port terminal creating huge problems and shipping delays as well as vessels by-passing the port . This is creating logistical challenges for stone fruit, pears, apples and the tail-end of the grape season in the Western Cape.

India / Bangladesh

India
Imported fruit sales will be negatively affected If the wet markets are closed completely again. Talk is that SA have a lot of Packhams en-route to India. Apples prices are maintaining high values. Egyptian Valencia’s prices are dropping weekly. SA have started their Royal Gala packing. The fruit has good colour due to good climatic conditions and this will mean more availability for Indian quality fruit. Chile have also started to pack their Gala crop.
Bangladesh
As with last weeks performance, we once again have proof that apples cannot be compared with apples.
Varieties of same origins are showing very different returns across the board.
There is very positive anticipation for the onset of arrivals from South Africa with Brazil seeing lower demand this year than the previous season.
Egyptian oranges are selling well, whilst mandarins from China are causing some significant dissatisfaction for the Marketeers in Bangladesh.
