Update on the last packing of Valencias in South Africa
The Valencia season is coming to an end with the Northern areas that have finished packing and the Western Cape will finish packing next week (week 42).
Update on the market in the GCC countries
A slight decrease in price levels for South African valencias in the GCC countries. Although there are still concerns from the market that higher volumes will be sent to the Middle East over the next 2-3 weeks subject to shipping availability, there is however a decrease of -4% on cumulative volumes shipped to date from South Africa compared to the 2020 season.

Grape, Stone & Kiwi Fruit
Stone fruit/Grapes
Only a few producers have started packing limited volumes of Stone fruit for air freight and this is predominantly going to the UK and some to Europe. Only nectarines are currently being packed for export/airfreight and some peaches have been packed for the local market. Due to current weather conditions, the fruit sizing is small (size 25 and smaller) with a limited size 20…. but hopefully, this will improve in the coming weeks. All producers should start packing from next week (week 42) but the season could be slightly later as rain is predicted for the next few days. In general, with the first Stone fruit being packed current sizing is smaller and the season is a little later.
There will be a larger stone fruit and Grape crop this season and with the shipping delays and equipment issues out of South Africa, there are concerns about the logistics for grapes and stone fruit this season. The fruit needs to be packed and shipped soonest due to the shorter shelf life of these commodities.

India / Bangladesh
India
The citrus market is stable even though the volumes from SA have hit the market late. Local citrus supply has also started.
Vermont/Forelle selling well on short supply. There is hope that the Packham market will start to pick up, with the drop-off in Vermont/Forelle supply.
Bangladesh
Mandarins have managed to pull themselves into a better position within the market, whilst apples and pears continue to hold their ground.
Oranges continue to trade well despite price levels dropping due to the availability of Brazilian products.
Grapes are the only exception at this stage with very poor performance and negative returns.
