Market update

Egypt has made an official announcement that the new Egyptian crop on navels will start making its arrival into the GCC countries from the 15th of November. This will not be good for the late-season valencias from South Africa that still need to make an arrival into the market and in a market that is already under pressure with price levels that are continuously declining. South Africa can’t afford to compete with Egyptian valencias in the market.

Grape, Stone & Kiwi Fruit

Stone fruit/Grapes

Update on Stone fruit and Grapes from South Africa

Most producers started packing stone fruit last week (week 42). For the new season, there is an expected increase of 9% on nectarines to 7.1 million cartons (2.5kg equivalent) and this is similar for plums.  Peach and apricot volumes are expected to be the same as last season, although apricot volumes might be slightly down.

There will be a larger stone fruit and Grape crop this season and with the shipping delays and equipment issues out of South Africa, there are concerns about the logistics for grapes and stone fruit this season. The fruit needs to be packed and shipped soonest due to the shorter shelf life of these commodities.
